Lynden Nowell

Age: 28

Sex: male

Date: 24 Jan 2002

Place: Coronation Public House, Childwall Valley Road, Childwall

Lynden Nowell vanished after leaving the Coronation Public House in Childwall on 24 January 2002.

He had left his house in Kirkdale at about 5.30pm to go to the pub to meet a man to collect a debt where he was last seen at about 8.45pm.

His silver Ford Focus hire car with registration number SA51 YNM was found the following day on fire in Blantyre Road, Swinton.

Police dredged canals and dug gardens up looking for his body.

It was thought that he might have been murdered in an underworld hit. However, it was also said that sightings of him had been later made in Spain and Holland.

Two people were arrested in relation to his murder following his disappearance, including Wayne Basnett who was himself murdered in December 2010.

Lynden Nowell was described as:

  • Black.
  • 6ft 3in tall.
  • Well built.
  • Wearing beige Armani trousers and a red/maroon top.

It was suggested that Lynden Nowell might have gone to visit someone in Manchester on the night he disappeared.

Lynden Nowell was said to have been known to the police and thought to have been involved in the criminal underworld and the police said that Lynden Nowell was known to have once associated with major crime groups and some of Merseyside's more notorious underworld figures.

Lynden Nowell was said to have travelled to Columbia in South America with a man in the 1990s to make contact with members of a drug cartel. However, it was said that they were followed by undercover police officers who had established that the man that Lynden Nowell had gone with was a trusted lieutenant of two high level drug dealers.

It was later published in Nature that the police were appealing for dental professionals to check their patient records to see if they had treated Lynden Nowell within the previous ten years, it being noted that the police needed to show that Lynden Nowell was in fact dead and that part of that evidence would be the fact that he had not been seen or had any contact with any organisation, agency or public body since his disappearance.
